Job description

What you will be doing:

Keep Auckland Airport Moving - We’re looking for a hands-on Civil Works Operator to help maintain and repair the critical infrastructure that keeps New Zealand connected to the world.

From runway pavements to roads and signage, you’ll be part of a tight-knit team that takes pride in doing work that really matters.

This is a full-time and permanent role, perfect for someone who has a Full Class 1 driver’s licence and some exposure to civil and maintenance work who is keen to learn and grow their skills on site.

The position involves working both night and day shifts during runway closures within the same week, with a requirement to be available for on-call duties.

The starting pay rate is $27.04 per hour, with opportunities for progression to higher rate of $30.63 within the team once deemed competent in core tasks.

This is a hands-on role and ideally for someone who is confident using tools, power tools, and operating around machinery, and comfortable working outside in all weather conditions.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • Patching and repairing potholes and damaged pavement on roads and airfields
  • Carrying out concrete and asphalt works (including digging, levelling, and compacting)
  • Installing or repairing signage and posts
  • Fence line repairs and basic carpentry tasks
  • Routine inspections of pavements and civil assets
  • Assisting with minor construction and reinstatement works

What you’ll bring to the role:

To ensure your success in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on maintenance experience in Civil Trade, roading and construction related roles.

  • Leadership skills with the ability to influence, combined with the ability to build strong networks with key stakeholders.

  • Well-developed skills as a team contributor, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively at different levels.

  • NZQA Level 1 Traffic Management (desirable but not compulsory)
  • Full Class 1 and 2 NZ Manual Driver’s license
  • Forklift license and traffic management (desirable but not compulsory)
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • A positive can-do attitude
