The Role

The Sands in Browns Bay is looking for a full time Sous Chef to join their passionate and dedicated kitchen team, in a fixed-term capacity.

What You’ll Be Doing:


  • Supporting the Executive Chef in the daily operations of the kitchen

  • Expressing your creativity and passion for cooking through high-quality meals

  • Ensuring food is prepared and presented to the highest standards

  • Supervising and mentoring kitchen staff, helping to build a strong, collaborative team

  • Assisting with menu planning, stock control, and food safety compliance

  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment

  • Helping to deliver exceptional customer service and dining experiences

  • Working hours that promote a healthy work-life balance


What You’ll Bring:








  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or strong experience in a senior kitchen role

  • A completed culinary apprenticeship or equivalent qualification/experience

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team

  • A passion for food presentation and flavour

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Safe food hygiene handling certificates – Safe Food NZQA 167, 168, 20666 or 27955

  • A positive, proactive attitude with a team-first approach

  • Ability to take ownership, use initiative, and maintain high standards

  • Respect for resident privacy and confidentiality

  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts as needed

  • Full working rights in New Zealand
