What you'll do | Hei mahi
A Category Manager focuses on the continual improvement of our range and is responsible for managing all aspects of product, price, promotions and placement.
They develop and lead their team to deliver targets on sales growth, profitability and market share through collaboration with a multitude of internal and external stakeholders.
Working in consultation with Internal stakeholders (Marketing, Digital, E-Commerce, Operations, Finance & Peoples Team) to deliver on strategy as well as financial and non financial objectives.
The Key Responsibilities include:
- Build the category strategy by gaining a thorough understanding of customer insights & the market to contribute to the Strategy.
- Curate ranges, refine pricing and promotion channel plan in line with Category Strategy, using Customer and Market insights to ensure it’s aligned to strategies.
- Partner with Suppliers to build relationship and optimise supplier portfolio in category to increase sales, profit and customer advocacy.
- Ensure that all products ranged within the category are compliant to Australian consumer law.
- Delivery of the financial KPIs for the category across sales, profit, inventory and market share.
- Delivery of the non-financial KPIs for people development, Voice of Supplier, Voice of Team and Voice of Customer.
- Developing & implementing customer centered category plans and reviews
- Sourcing products that are customer centric and provide a competitive advantage.
- Negotiating with suppliers on range, COGs and promotional investment.
- Collaboration with the various cross functional teams e.g., Marketing, Online, Replenishment, Customer Insights, Rewards.

- Proven experience as a Category Manager or similar role in a large retail organisation or FMCG environment
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing customer-focused category plans aligned with the divisional strategy and supported by sound commercial insights and data.
- Strong negotiation and influence skills with cross-functional and external stakeholders at all levels of the business.
- Ability to become an industry expert in the field of responsibility within Australia.
- Passion for product and product development, staying at the forefront of innovation and continuous improvement.
