Our Field Surveying team in Manukau is seeking an experienced building industry professional to manage the Auckland South East portfolio as a Building Surveyor Inspector.

With over 600 staff members in Building Consents working across the Auckland region, we can confidently say that there are always excellent career opportunities available within our team.

You will be responsible for conducting building inspections across your coverage area, to ensure compliance with all relevant legislative and safety requirements.

You will have the opportunity to travel around the region, receive comprehensive training and support, and the autonomy to make necessary decisions so that our customers can experience a seamless process with us.

You will be working with clients from various sectors of the development community, such as builders, homeowners, architects and developers, providing them with the proper guidance and advice on compliant building practices.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Inspect building work to ensure compliance with building consents, building codes, building consent authority’s BCA policies, and other legislative requirements, and make appropriate technical decisions on inspection outcomes
  • Help increase customer understanding of the building code and Council processes by providing accurate and timely advice in a customer centric manner
  • Apply sound reasons for decisions and maintain accurate, robust records of inspections

As an experienced building industry professional, this is your opportunity to progress your career with the Building Consents department where you will promote a safe, healthy, and sustainable built environment across the Auckland region.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • An NZ Trade Certificate or equivalent related building industry qualification (or related discipline)
  • Proven experience in building, surveying, or inspection is desirable
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and acute decision‑making
  • A professional approach and a positive customer‑focused aptitude
  • A full and clean driving licence
