We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Building Inspector to join our team in Hamilton, New Zealand. The building industry is evolving fast, with major legislative reforms reshaping the Building Consent Authority (BCA) space.

As a Building Inspector, you’ll be at the forefront of these changes.

As a Building Inspector, you will:

  • Inspect building work to ensure compliance with the Building Act, Building Code, and approved consents
  • Identify and act on unsafe or non‑compliant work
  • Provide clear, practical advice to builders, designers, and property owners
  • Support Hamilton City Council’s BCA accreditation through quality inspections and documentation
  • Stay ahead of regulatory changes and apply them in practice
  • Contribute to a positive, customer‑focused team culture

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Building Act 2004, Building Code, and related standards
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans, legislation, and technical documents
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality outcomes
  • Computer literacy and comfort with digital inspection tools
  • Full NZ driver’s licence
  • Preferred: Regulation 18 technical qualification (or working towards it)
  • Desirable: Knowledge of plumbing and drainage (but not essential)
