We are seeking an accomplished Auckland Editor to lead and shape coverage for our subscriber only website, The Post .

The Post is a leading national news organisation in New Zealand, combining the digital reach of with the storytelling power of its flagship national newspapers, The Post and The Sunday Star-Times .

We deliver incisive, high-impact journalism from the capital and beyond, and we are expanding our footprint in Auckland to bring our growing national audience more exclusive stories from New Zealand’s biggest city.

This is a senior editorial role with responsibility for producing exclusive, agenda-setting content with strong national appeal, while driving growth in digital reach and audience engagement in Auckland.

You will lead a talented team of journalists, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

With the ability to move seamlessly between breaking news, investigative reporting, and in-depth features, you will set the highest standards of journalism—informing, engaging, and inspiring audiences.

The Auckland Editor will play a pivotal role in developing and executing our editorial strategy for the region, ensuring our content connects with local communities and resonates nationally.

You will work closely with colleagues across editorial, commercial, marketing, and product teams to deliver content that meets strategic objectives, supports membership growth, strengthens audience loyalty, and drives digital revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead editorial strategy and delivery for Auckland, aligned with organisational goals.

  • Oversee high-quality content creation and distribution across all platforms.

  • Build and maintain influential networks across the city.

  • Use audience insights and analytics to inform and optimise content.

  • Champion investigative projects, special reports, and campaigns.

  • Foster a high-performing, motivated team through clear leadership and professional development.

  • Promote strong connections between the newsroom and local communities.

About You

  • Proven experience in senior editorial leadership, preferably in a newsroom environment.

  • Track record of producing and guiding impactful journalism.

  • Skilled in audience-first, digital-centric publishing.

  • Strong ability to manage teams, develop talent, and lead change.

  • Exceptional organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to editorial integrity, innovation, and inclusivity.
