Assistant Director - Architecture
Join GHD’s Wellington Studio as an Assistant Director of Architecture to lead creative and technical leadership on major infrastructure and civic projects.
This dual‑role position balances design leadership, project and client management, and business growth to deliver high‑quality design solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and design direction across multidisciplinary architecture projects.
- Lead architectural design for major infrastructure and development for government and civic clients.
- Develop design excellence and ensure technical quality of deliverables.
- Serve as project lead from masterplan through construction.
- Foster inclusive team culture, mentor staff, and build strong client relationships.
- Identify market opportunities and lead bid preparation.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Minimum 15+ years of experience with leadership roles on large scale projects.
- Revit and MasterSpec proficiency.
- Strong understanding of local compliance and consenting processes.
- Strong market connections in New Zealand, especially government and civic sectors.
- Demonstrated success in team leadership, project delivery, and client relationship management.
- Strategic mindset, strong communication, and passion for design excellence.
- Commitment to mentoring and developing high‑performing teams.
