Job Title: Assistant Business Accountant
Role type: Full time preferred, fixed term through to Jan 2027
Location: Wellington
Salary band & range: F $76,463 to $101,967 depending on skills and experience.
Midpoint of the range sits at $89,215

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
This role sits within the Management Accounting team, reporting to a supportive and approachable Finance Manager.

The team is made up of Business Accountants and Assistant Business Accountants, who work closely together to share knowledge and best practice.

This is a great opportunity to become a trusted Assistant Business Accountant, delivering excellent customer service and grow your career.

You'll support budget managers to complete budgeting and forecasting efficiently and effectively and gain exposure to the full financial government cycle, including annual budgets and baseline updates.

You'll build a strong understanding of your business units' operations, enabling you to deliver reporting and financial advice that is customer-focused and clearly communicates the story behind the numbers.

You'll bring:
* A tertiary qualification in accounting is essential
* Full membership or working towards membership with a recognised accounting body
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills for customer facing work
* Ability to support cost centre managers with unique programmes of work
* Willingness to adapt to process improvements and new ways of working
* A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn from experienced colleagues

About You - Mōu
You may have worked in a large, complex organisation and bring experience engaging with stakeholders to deliver trusted financial advice.

You'll be working alongside experienced colleagues, supporting a variety of managers across different areas of the business.

This role is a great stepping stone into management accounting, especially if you're looking to shift from a technical focus to a more customer-facing role.

You'll thrive in a high-trust environment with autonomy and regular check-ins, learning from seasoned professionals.

We're not necessarily looking for someone with a public sector background, but experience in a large organisation will help you succeed.

To be successful, you'll demonstrate:
* Clear communication and the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders
* Strong written communication skills
* Experience gathering, organising, and communicating accurate financial information

* Good understanding of accounting principles and practices
