Westland Milk Products is a well-known New Zealand end-to-end dairy manufacturer based in the beautiful South Island with offices and production facilities based in both Christchurch and Hokitika.

Owned by the Global Top 5 dairy company Yili Group, Westland Milk Products and its related companies in New Zealand, Oceania Dairy (Glenavy), Pure Nutrition Ltd (Rolleston), Canary Foods (Hamilton) and EasiYo Ltd (Auckland) form a group that we refer to as the Yili Oceania Business Division (YOBD).

The combined business produces over 170,000mt of finished goods which are then exported to over 40 countries, driving annual revenue in excess of - and growing.

About the Role:

We have an exciting new opportunity for an Assets Accountant to join our talented and close-knit Finance team, based at our Hokitika site.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring a robust control environment over the significant investment in fixed assets at our Hokitika factory, as well as overseeing governance across all finished goods and raw material inventory types.

You'll play a key role in supporting the effective management of these assets throughout their whole lifecycle.

In addition to your site-based responsibilities, you'll collaborate with other Yili Oceania Group entities and our Group Finance team to drive consistency and efficiency, plus support the completion of local and wider group reporting and analysis as required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring there are effective processes and controls in place to govern the company's fixed assets and inventories
  • Completing asset reporting and analysis
  • Maintaining up to date and accurate accounting and tax asset registers
  • Ensuring leases are appropriately captured and recorded in accordance with IFRS standards
  • Leading half yearly assets counts for fixed assets and Low Value Consumables
  • Monitoring and reporting of idle and impaired assets
  • Inventory management - implementing effective controls and reporting over inventory including the monitoring and follow up of Slow Moving and Obsolete Inventory items
  • A range of additional Accounts tasks as required in a large complex manufacturing business
  • Skills and Experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance is preferred
  • Good accounting skills and relevant previous financial experience working in a large-scale complex organisation
  • An exceptional level of attention to detail
  • A proactive approach with excellent communication, relationship management and influencing skills
  • Strong MS Excel skills and a good degree of IT literacy along with the ability to learn new systems
