The Airfield Environmental Officer is responsible for the implementation of airfield environment management plans to support safe military flying operations at RNZAF Base Auckland.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
* Delivering environmental management programmes that meet military and civil regulations along with industry best practice.
* Implementing the Airfield Wildlife Management Plan.
* Regular monitoring of flora/fauna/weather/bird activities on the airfield and surrounding environment.
* Managing the grounds around the airfield and conducting land management activities.
* Actively monitoring pest/ wildlife levels and culling if required.
* Communicating effectively and proactively with key stakeholders both internal and external.
* Coordination and management of reservists and volunteers.
The role also includes assisting with the management of Whenuapai Aerodrome with airfield inspections, obstruction limitation surfaces, lighting, navigation aids and contractors accessing airside.

Along with considerable experience in wildlife and bird management, you will ideally have the following:
* Experience managing ecological and environmental issues.
* Knowledge of agriculture in respect to grasses, weed types and seasonal pastoral growth.
* Experience in the airport management industry and/ or sound knowledge or airfield operations would be advantageous.
* Experience supervising and overseeing contractors.
* Confident communication with internal and external stakeholders such as iwi and council.
* Experience using firearms and a current firearms license( can be obtained on the job).
* Knowledge of both Civil and Military Aircraft operational specifications would be welcomed.
At times there may be a need to conduct work outside of normal hours, such as bird control at dawn and dusk, or travel to other sites with RNZAF flying units, in order to provide additional wildlife management at smaller airports/airfields.

Higher Level Security Clearance
* You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
* At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
* You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
If you do not meet the minimum criteria, unfortunately, your application will not be accepted.
