Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Join the Maritime Digital Transformation (MDT) programme as an Agile Project Manager, supporting the MDT Programme Lead and Delivery Lead, to deliver this landmark initiative.
This is New Zealand's first major investment in maritime navigational services in over 30 years, implementing the S-100 digital standard for marine navigation.
You will draw on your extensive experience as an Agile Project Manager to support the team to deliver the implementation phase of the programme which is expected to be complete by end of June 2027.
You will facilitate agile ceremonies, maintain delivery metrics, remove impediments, and help squads create realistic plans.
Your project management expertise will be complimented by your Scrum Master skills.
Working with the Programme leads, Work Leads, and Delivery Squads, you will turn methodology into practice, providing the structure and coordination needed to deliver excellence and enable New Zealand to meet its international maritime obligations.

You will draw on your extensive experience as an Agile Project Manager to support the team to deliver.
You will use your excellent communication, facilitation, and organisational skills to champion agile ways of working to foster a high-performing environment
Key Responsibilities:
* Coordinate and align delivery across multiple workstreams, including procurement, people readiness, technology implementation, data migration, vendor engagement, and product deployment
* Support integrated planning and execution, ensuring delivery milestones, dependencies, and resource needs are clearly understood and managed across both agile and traditional streams
* Apply agile delivery practices within the technical stream, facilitating ceremonies, maintaining delivery metrics, and supporting squads to plan and deliver effectively
* Manage cross-workstream dependencies, ensuring visibility and timely resolution of delivery risks and blockers
* Produce delivery reports and metrics, contributing to programme-level reporting and governance forums
* Support the MDT Programme Lead and Delivery Lead with coordination, stakeholder engagement, and issue escalation
* Champion agile ways of working, while ensuring structured delivery approaches are applied where appropriate across the programme
Skills and Experience:
* 5+ years' experience in project management, with demonstrated capability across both traditional and agile delivery environments
* Strong coordination and planning skills, with experience managing complex delivery across multiple workstreams and stakeholder groups
* Expertise in agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), including facilitation of agile ceremonies and coaching of delivery teams
* Experience supporting technical teams to deliver new digital solutions through IT change initiatives (e.g., custom development, package implementation, business change)
* Proven ability to manage delivery dependencies, track progress, and produce high-quality delivery and governance reporting
* Agile certification (e.g., Certified Scrum Master, SAFe Agilist, AgilePM) preferred
* Experience in government or large-scale programmes advantageous; familiarity with maritime navigation or hydrography a plus
The expected appointing range for this role is between $125,000-$140,000, depending on skills and experience.
